We often interact with everyday objects passively, as they meet our needs with little effort. In contrast, a tool requires genuine involvement : sawing a board by hand takes strength, far more than lighting a cigarette with a lighter. With Manivelle, I wanted to explore the concept of dynamic objects—where movement becomes a natural extension of human action. Here, functionality arises from a spontaneous gesture, extended by a movement, creating a deeper interaction between the user and the object.
By requiring physical participation, this lamp becomes hybrid, sitting at the intersection of tool and instrument. Manivelle consists of a vertical mast and a pivoting arm, allowing the light intensity to be adjusted as it rotates.
